RECENT NEWS

During January 23-29, 2011, I attended the Second Global Forum on Human Resources for Health and Prince Mahidol Award Conference 2011 at Centara Grand Hotel at Central World in Bangkok, Thailand. The Forum was jointly convened by the Global Health Workforce Alliance, the Prince Mahidol Award Conference, the World Health Organization and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, supported by many other global partners.

In February 2011, I joined shiree project of DFID Bangladesh as a Communications Manager. Economic Empowerment of the Poorest (EEP) in Bangladesh (more familiar by its approach shiree – the Bangla word for steps and an acronym for "Stimulating Household Improvements Resulting in Economic Empowerment") is a partnership programme between the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) with the objective of raising one million Bangladeshis from extreme poverty by the aid of a challenge-fund worth GBP£ 65M (around US$ 130M) over a period of 8 years from 2008 till 2015.
Harewelle International Ltd. and PMTC Bangladesh Ltd. manage the fund in consultation with EEP/shiree consortium partners including the Centre for Development Studies (CDS) at Bath University, the British Council and Unnayan Shamannay. EEP/shiree is one in DFID’s portfolio of projects designed to reduce extreme poverty and vulnerability in Bangladesh.
